BE Campbell has its roots in the fertile soil
of the Southern slopes of New South Wales, where the Campbell family’s proud pastoral history dates back to 1860.
In 1969 Bruce and Marie Campbell, with over a hundred years of family experience on the land behind them, and heirs to this invaluable pastoral heritage, created
BE Campbell.
Today BE Campbell has grown to be one of Australia’s largest family owned meat
processing facilities.
Our extended family
BE Campbell sources its products from a select group of Australian family owned farms.
These farms are managed by families such as; the Walker family from Young in NSW, the Hill family in QLD, and the Baks from SA to name a few - who pride themselves on best breeding practices and product quality control.

Walker family farm NSW
Welcome to the Walker Family Farm named “Windridge”. In 1986 we thought it would be a good idea to buy a pig farm. In the following two decades we purchased a few more – Wonga, Koorani and Templemore so we could offer more tasty pork into Australian mouths.
Today the 3 farms are owned by sister’s Sally and Andree and husbands Jonathon and Andrew.
All our land is fertilised with manure from the pigs, making the farm a wonderful integrated recycling system. As we are focused on increasing ground cover, organic matter in our soils and planting trees. We move forward with the following two visions.
- To engage in sustainable agricultural practice that will leave the land better than we found it.
- To foster the wellbeing of staff, land, animals, the community and the environment
Blantyre family farm
Blantyre Farms is a mixed agricultural business located near Young. It is owned by Michael & Edwina Beveridge, who live and work on the farm. The business was previously owned by Dugald & Jeannie Walker, Edwina’s parents, who purchased the first part of the pig farming business in 1984. Since then they continued accumulating land & expanding the facilities to its present size.
We raise pigs, sheep, cattle and also grow wool & crops. We have a great team of 25 people,
who care for our animals 7 days a week. We are in the process of expanding and upgrading our farming operation, using new infrastructure and new technology. We aim to keep at the leading edge of animal raring and sustainable farming.
Greenway family farm
Our farm “Bernarro” is located close to St. Arnaud, Victoria, in what is a traditional wool and grain growing area. These enterprises took off after the gold rush, on which the town was founded.
We have been on this land since original selection, 150 years making us the 5th generation to work and live here.
We have a mixed operation, pigs, prime lambs and grain.
We became pig producers when Bruce Greenaway was looking to expand, but there was little land available, so he chose to intensify. There was an opportunity to become a contract grower of pigs from the established St. Arnaud piggeries which were also looking to expand.
This move took place in the hard times of the ’82 drought, with construction completed in time for the first pigs to be delivered in Jan ’83. The site has expanded over the years to give the newly arrived weaners the best possible environment.
We aim to produce high quality pork for the Australian market, through BE Campbell who have stuck with us through these difficult times.
The farm aims to produce the best quality we possibly can, every time – pork, lamb or grain.
If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well!
Hill family farm
In 1929 Noel Fredrick Hill purchased 68 Hectares of freehold land in the Mulgildie area in the Shire of Monto, Queensland. And named the farm “Bailey Creek” He worked extremely hard clearing scrub to plant his first crop of cotton.
This small cash crop allowed Noel to slowly expand his farm to have 27 milking cows producing cream for the local butter factory and the left over skim milk was feed to his
4 breading sows.
In 1969 Noel sold the farm to his son John Francis Hill. John continued expanding the dairy
and pig herd to total about 40 milking cows and 40 breeding sows.
In 1974 due to drought John choose to sell his dairy herd and expand the piggery. Over the next 15 years John was able to expand the pig herd and purchase a further grain growing land.
In 1989 John’s son Ian John Hill finished school and returned home to help John with the farm.
In the last 20 years together they have grown the pig farming enterprise which employs around 20 fulltime staff.
In the coming years John will retire from the business and Ian will endeavour to continue
to grow the business for his three children. Continuing the tradition of supplying best of breed products to BE Campbell.
Baks family farm
We, Alex Baks and Jetty Baks came to Australia from the Netherlands in June 2002. Alex has been a pig farmer since he took over the family farm when he was nineteen. Jetty worked as a food assistant in a hospital. We got married in 2003 on the farm in the Eco shelter, (without pigs) and not long after that our first child was born.
Alex then decided to follow his dream: setting up his own piggery in Australia.
He found a place to realise his dream on a former sheep and cropping farm in Lameroo South Australia.
The first year was about planning and meeting people. But also about making choices, who to deal with etc. This was
not easy. We were looking for a family business, that’s what we came from
and how we liked it.
The dream of having a pig farm in Australia has come true. We are working hard.
Life in Australia is good.
We are happy with the choice we made and could not wish for more.
